Vladimir Putin stunned the world yesterday by claiming that Russia has approved a Covid-19 vaccine. 

The problem is that, at best, they have done phase 1 and 2 trials on a very small test group, although no test data is available. 

Russia, which is notorious for its propaganda and risky publicity stunts, has not even started the all important mass trials of phase 3. 

That means an already skeptical world that finds 2/3rds of Britons wary of ever taking a vaccine at all, may now confirm their doubts. 

But why upstage a global community that is doing trials with all due respect for scientific method, public safety and global cooperation in a coordinated fight against Covid-19. Is it time for such games? 

This is Russian Roulette. 

Not only will it put the unsuspecting at risk by lowering their guards, but it could also have direct impacts on that same population. 

And if that happens, confidence in the public health systems of the world will be dangerously impaired.   

I am definitely not opposed to vaccines and I respectfully view a lot of the conspiracies around that as unfounded. 

Vaccines were discovered by Edward Jenner when he noticed that patients who had had cowpox were immune to smallpox.

That led to the total eradication of Smallpox, one of the greatest killers in history, which in the 100 years prior to the vaccine, claimed 500 million lives at a 30% fatality rate.

The science is so logical. It gives the body the antibodies or cheat codes needed to fight the disease for itself. 

Vaccines were later used to eradicate other diseases, such as measles, a highly infectious disease that killed 2.6 million in 1980. 

The science is not the problem but herbs and natural antibiotics, confirm that God is invested in our health. 

Indeed, he initiated quarantine in the camp of Israel and dietary rules were entrenched into their laws. 

He also built the body with intentional awareness of the risks in our environment, by providing us with disease-fighting cells. 

Despite knowing all the risks, the creator never exempted humanity from them, but used them to shape our social behaviors. 

Thus, the plague led to all kinds of changes in hygiene and coexistence, while the world wars taught us about antiseptics. 

It may be that he set such counter-balances into life to tame our excesses and save us from our own follies. 

But dissenting views are increasing the risks to billions of children, and adults and spiking diseases like measles. 

Putin's Sputnik-V could spin out of its orbit and fail.

Despite billions of doses now being rushed into production, confidence in orthodox therapies may be severely challenged. 

And that could leave us unprotected, just what God tried to avoid. And when that happens, pandemics could rage out of control. 

To confirm how naive the world is about these things and how quickly governments will grasp at these straws ...
