Anti-government riots break out in shell-shocked Beirut.

There is no doubt that the administration of Beirut knew about the dangerous cargo in its port area.

It knew about it for 6 years, but felt that sending letters was a job well done.

What kind of government knows the threat to its people and merely asks for the threat to be removed.

Except that governments all over the world do exactly the same until something like this makes it all too little, too late.

The people are rightfully angry. Their city has been devastated, over a hundred are dead, homes are ruined, people are injured, businesses will fail and chaos reigns.

And they had 6 years to prevent that. It wasn't even their stuff. It was confiscated from a ship and held in bond.

But now they have inflamed a riot that saw 16 people arrested. Do they really want to rekindle old flames and turn their healing city into another troubled area?

I can only hope that the anger will dissipate and bring the people together to rebuild their city.
