The deaths of three people on a farm has seen swift justice.

After an extensive search, police found the bodies of Danie Brand, 83, his wife, Breggie, 73, and their 54-year-old daughter, Elzabie.

This callous act by the five accused brought them face to face with victims' family members, in their first court appearance.

They all look incapable of such a heinous crime, but its a reality, although as yet motives are unknown.

All we do know is that 7 police units descended on the farm and scoured the area until the victims were found.

They were originally kidnapped and may well have been intended for a ransom demand, but they panicked when the police closed in.

If that is so, given how young and naive the perpetrators were, its not impossible that a better approach would have yield better results.

Whatever, three souls, two pretty old and defenseless, are now dead and the body count on farm murders has increased again.

This is a dreadful case. So brutal, so uncalled for. But that, sadly, is true of most farm murders. They are opportunistic crimes.
