The virus is reaching critical mass.
Dr Birx, a leading specialist in the White House response team has warned that the virus is now saturating the country.
It is, in her word, "extraordinarily widespread", which provides a significant platform for growth across a broad front.
That is potentially a dangerous place for a nation about to enter winter, when they expect a spike anyway.
It doesn't help that recently released economic data shows a 33% quarter-on-quarter annual decline in GDP.
It is no longer safe for rural communities in America. The virus has broadened to all parts of America. Now it is at risk of deepening.
With 4.6 million infections and over 150,000 deaths, the US is in a predicament that may shake it to the core.
Ironically, Americans seem content to defy all warnings and proceed on holiday or to whatever is least healthy for them right now.
A vaccine is still a ways off, but other threats are bearing down on the US as it enters what is predicted to be a record hurricane season.
But campaigning for November elections continues and with it crowd gatherings, which further aggravate the risks.
Is it possible that the current administration has lost all control of one of the greatest threats that nation has ever faced.
Certainly, in terms of shear numbers, there isn't much to compare it to. 911 certainly doesn't, nor does its history of natural disasters. And soon not even the Vietnam war will compare.
I do not wish to sound alarmist, but when an Infectious Disease expert of high standing warns that the disease its entering a new, dangerous phase, I think its right to take note.
