Despite global condemnation Brazil keeps burning.

They have a routine annual burn. It happens in my country too, spontaneously, due to dry conditions.

I get that. But this year Brazil had 28% more fires than last year, and last year's fires made major headlines.

However, the worst is yet to come. July's 6,800 fires will peak into a serious setback for the region in August.

President Bolsonaro has an indifferent approach to most things, notably his response to Covid-19 and the fires.

Well Covid-19 in Brazil has now reached nearly 3 million cases and 100,000 deaths. So much for that.

But look, if he wants to mess with the lives of Brazilians, fine, that's their problem to solve.

However, the Amazon in a global asset, a vital carbon sink that helps the planet breathe. But he doesn't care about that.

On the contrary, he encourages mining and farming in Amazonia and wants economic expansion into the region.

Generations to come will pay for such folly. The account will have to be settled. And soon it will be impaired beyond recovery.
