Just when the monsoons decline, typhoons arrive.
China had summer snow in June, which legend claims as retribution for injustice. Duo E as it is called, traces back to an historic wrongful execution. It implies that heaven sees the injustices.
Well, I don't know about that, but China has had a year of troubles including droughts, earthquakes, floods, a trade war, divestment from Kenya, India and Japan, banning of Huawei and TikTok in the US, conflict with India, and now two typhoons.
The two typhoons breaking now, Sinlaku and Hagupit, have taken over where the monsoons left off.
Hagupit seems to suggest a retribution as it is Tagalot/Filipino for beating, whipping or destruction.
And both are at risk of sending more water down the Yangtze, into the already strained Three Gorges dam.
Of course the dam has held up. The 180 meter high walls have a base of 160 meters width and a crest of 40 meters.
It is a phenomenal structure. But the implied sense of omnipotence that goes with it, reminds me of what was said about the Titanic.
Look, no, I don't wish the worst. But how much more can China bear? I am no judge of these things, but I have never in my life seen such apocalyptic conditions as I am now witnessing.
I really felt that the threat from three Monsoon floods was receding, but now yellow and blue alerts are flashing again.
Something is happening there.
