The Queen is one of my personal heroes.

She is just one of life’s pillars, adored by most Britons, even by anti-royalists, and globally as a paragon of principle and grace.

She ascended the throne in 1953, with the promise of young, relatively naive woman, who set aside her role as a WW2 auxiliary vehicle mechanic, to rise to her nation’s highest calling.

Her promise was to serve her people faithfully, for as long as she lived. She has lived up to that unstintingly.

A great example of that was her stoic stand to wave at adoring crowds as she floated down the Thames for her Diamond Jubilee.

She is 94 and still drives or rides horses. Visiting Arab leaders have had to just bear with her driving them around Balmoral.

But what are the secrets to her health and longevity?

A doctor client yesterday described how rapidly people decline once they retire and cease to be of value. The Queen never retired.

What a lesson for us. There is nothing that compels any of us to retire, from formal work sure, but not from life, ever.

She has kept up a regular pattern of disciplined work all her life, a routine that kept her life simple, focused, relevant and of value.

Finding something to do that can be sustained in the twilight years and gives us meaning is the key to staying forever young.

She also follows the simple principle of eating half, walking twice and living thrice. We can all do that too.

Her great sense of humor also helped her to see life in perspective, to de-stress and to uplift those around her.

She knows who she is and what she does. That unclutters her life and makes the main thing, the main thing. But life crowds out ours.

Her marriage has been rock-solid. Never forget your closest relationships. They are key to your strength and health.

I could go on but let me sum up.

Stay active, maintain your connections, protect your inner circle, eat wisely, maintain purpose, do what is meaningful, don’t drain your life on work but live for a noble cause, be disciplined and routined, maintain your sense of humor, serve the world around you, give out more than you take in and stay relevant in a changing world.

Her faith in Jesus is real and pivotal to her life.

The last secret to her health is less known. She wrote about it in a book entitled, “a servant queen and the king I serve.”

No one and nothing has kept up my life passion, purpose or sense of meaning, than he has. He is an island in a cynical world.

I wish you health, long life and happiness, but above all I wish that you would find in him the fountain of life, hope and faith that will carry you panting to the grave.
